Guled and his wife Nasra are a loving couple, living on the outskirts of Djibouti with their teenage son. However they are facing difficult times: Nasra urgently needs an expensive operation to treat kidney disease, but Guled is already working hard as a gravedigger to make ends meet. How will they find the money to save Nasra and keep the family together? This warm-hearted, gentle, yet humorous drama is the first Somali-language film ever to be released in UK.

In the 1960s, a team of young speleologists sets out to explore the Bifurto Abyss, Europe’s deepest cave, 700m below ground, in the remote Calabrian hinterland, for the first time. The cavers’ venture goes unnoticed by the local villagers, but not by the old shepherd living nearby, whose solitary life begins to interweave with the group’s journey. A meditative work of gorgeous photography and minimal dialogue that touches on the mystical, as it depicts a journey through time and nature.

A disillusioned young teacher in Bhutan dreams of moving to Australia to be a singer. But instead he finds himself transferred to a remote school in the mountains of Bhutan, with its philosophy of “gross national happiness”. Ugyen is met by the village’s population of 56, who hail him as a visiting dignitary, tasked with giving the children a future of more than yak-herding.
In a mud-walled classroom with no internet, electricity or even a blackboard, he finds himself sharing his classroom with a yak called Norbu and a class of children hungry to learn. Filmed on location, by solar-powered batteries, with local villagers taking many roles, this cheerful, heart-warming tale reminds us what really matters in life.
